The moment I entered my room after dropping Vayu and his parents to the airport, my heart cried. For the last month, my room was not just a space confined within four walls but a cosy home with my love and Maa.
Even in that difficult time, there was laughter, there was love and emotions airing around the room.
My eyes fell on the bed, the creases on the bed sheet speaking of our love as we spent hours sitting there in each other's embrace.
The kitchen speaks of the yummy food Maa made for me throughout the month, the wet floor of the bathroom reminding me of the makeout session we did in the morning.
The curtains fluttered in the air giving me a flashback of the entire month.
The walls that used to be my HOME until few hours ago had reversed their roles now. My HOME has gone away and it's again a space within four walls and me. Felt like I was back on square one.
A lone tear escaped my eye and this time I didn't have Vayu to wipe it off. Despite my heavy heart wanting to cry as I saw his figure fading into the crowd as he descended inside the airport, I maintained a smile on my face. A fake one!
But he was way too smart to know if I was forcing the happiness on my face or not. He kissed my cheeks before going inside and that too in front of his parents. Maa was so right, he's growing shameless day by day.
I moved towards the side table and my eyes caught attention on a piece of paper kept over it. I picked it up and opened it to find something written over it.
'Feel my fingers as they wipe those precious tears of yours, Sunflower!'
The first line said. I chuckled at this knowing the way he was sure I must be crying as soon as I came back.
"Bastard!" I cursed him.
I continued reading,
'I'm not a bastard okay?'
I looked around the room, is he here? "Sudhar jaa!" I whispered, and read further.
'Sudharne mein kya maza hai! Okay okay let's be serious, hmm?
So I want some promises from you!
Number one, you will not cry alone, because I'm not there to wipe those glistening tears of yours. Promise?'
I shook my head as tears already appeared on the brim of my eyes.
'Say yes, Sunflower!'
"Yes!" I muttered, wiping my tears and chuckling.
'Good girl!
Number two, you'll not miss me more than 2 hours a day! Okay?'
"No wayyyy!" I said.
'I know you won't agree! Cool!
Number three, you'll take care of yourself too, the same way you took care of me! Take your medicines on time, okay?'
"Hmm!" I hummed.
'What hmm? Cheating mat kar! Say yes! Huh!'
"As you say sir! Okay!" I sighed.
'Okay that's all! Now enjoy your favourite Mac Maharaja! ALONE!'
My brows frowned in confusion! Mac Maharaja kahan se aa gaya?
I read further,
'It will be delivered in a few minutes, Sunflower! Aaj to akele enjoy karle, next time I'll eat half of it!'
"In your dreams, Kashyap!" I muttered with a smirk on my lips.
'Ab kahegi in your dreams Kashyap! I hope you remember our morning make...'
My pupil dilated at it and I read ahead,
'Okay sorry madam!
Thanks a lot, Sunflower! For everything you have done for me and my parents. We're lucky to have you! Especially ME!
Don't cry my love! For me? Hmm?'
"Sab pata hai na tujhe!" I chuckled.
'Yes! Boyfriend..sorry fiance kiska hu! Hehe!
Okay babe, please take care of yourself my love.
See you soon!
I love you!'
I wiped my tears and an impromptu smile danced over my face. "I love you more, Vayu!" I muttered, kissing the letter and keeping it in the almirah.
Sometimes home is a person! And for me, he's my home, my safe place!
3 MONTHS LATER
"How am I looking?" Reya asked, twirling her lehenga, as she got ready for the Diwali pooja.
Before I could speak, Navi spoke up in between, "Always pretty, bhabhi!" I looked at her through the screen.
"Gorgeous, Sunflower!" I said shifting my eyes to Sunflower.
She sat on the chair coming closer to her phone. Yes right now we three are on facetime. Navi is in Bangalore, Reya at her parents house and me, here in Dehradun.
"Bhai! Mom and Dad are missing you a lot!" Navi said wearing bangles as she too was getting ready for the pooja.
"I could have come, but I already had a month of leaves in the past, so I need to prepare for the exams." I replied, rubbing my face with my palms.
"Hmm, okay I think mom is calling me! Bye guys, Happy Diwali!" Navi said before disconnecting the call.
My eyes moved back to Reya who was brushing her hair. "You look so hot that I want to kiss you right now!!" I said with a smirk.
She narrowed her eyes and said, "Navi ke saamne to nahi bola tune?"
I chuckled at her words, "Vo poore ghar mein bata deti!" Making her chuckle too.
"Vayu, won't you be coming to Tanu's wedding next month?" She asked cutely, applying bindi on her forehead.
A smirk appeared on my lips but before she could decipher it I covered it with a sad face, "I don't think I could make it to her wedding, Sunflower!"
I wish I could tell her that I'm coming to her wedding but that's a surprise for Reya and for my family too.
"Oh! I wish you could come!" She whispered in a sad tone putting on her earrings.
"I wish the same! Okay c'mon now get ready fast, Mumma must be waiting for you baby!" I said because I couldn't act more and was unable to hide my excitement.
"Yes! Chal I'm going! Happy diwali, Vayu. I love you!" She replied happily.
"Happy Diwali baby! I love you, Sunflower!" I said and disconnected the call.
I'm going to surprise my Sunflower at Tanu's wedding and before that I'll visit my parents too. The wedding is just 20 days from today so I can't visit my home during this Diwali vacation.
I'm so excited to see my Sunflower. How come I won't be present beside her at her best friend's wedding.
My injuries have healed fully. Though I go on a regular medical checkup every 15 days, I'm glad there's nothing serious now. All credit goes to my love, my Sunflower!
I miss him so much! Aghhh! I want to be in his arms!
Rolling myself over the bed for almost an hour now, I sat up and leaned against the headboard. I was so excited to go to Tanu's wedding with him but today he said he couldn't come.
Though his reason was valid too, he had a one month leave when he got injured and so he needs to prepare for his exams. He'll be passing out from IMA next year. These last few months are gonna be so important for him.
And hence, I couldn't force him much. I don't want to either. For his dream, I can sacrifice anything. It's just a wedding!
I wanted to call him but I looked at the wall clock that showed 1 AM. I couldn't call him at this hour, he must be sleeping. I thought and a wave of sadness flushed over me.
Picking up my phone, I scrolled through my gallery, looking at our pictures from our Roka Ceremony. My face instantly lit up as I moved my fingers over the screen, zooming in and out of every picture of us.
We even visited the Gurdwara after the Roka to take the blessings of Waheguru. I didn't know when Navi clicked our picture, we were sitting there, but that picture turned out to be the best.
I decided to shared that picture on my Instagram with a caption, 'Finally choosing us, over anything!'
I know it has been almost 3 months since the Roka ceremony when I'm sharing this post, but I care less about anyone!
I'm with him, he's with me, our families are happy, now the world can go and fuck itself!
Once I was done, I kept the phone aside and pushed myself over the mattress and went to sleep.
15 DAYS LATER
The car came to a halt and I opened my eyes, looking around the city of Gwalior. Yes! I'm here in Gwalior for Tanu's wedding. She took me here with herself four days before her wedding and like a good friend that I'm, I happily agreed.
We descended down the car and took our luggage as we went inside the grand hotel. We checked in at the reception and the receptionist gave us the keys. Tanu's parents had already booked a resort for the wedding. We met her family before going to our room.
After the tiring journey to Gwalior, I decided to take some rest as Tanu and I have to go to the spa before the wedding festivities start tomorrow.
Keeping my luggage in the room, I freshened up and changed my clothes into comfortable nightwear. I was doing my skincare routine, when I heard Tanu yelling at someone on the phone.
"I don't know Dhairya! Get your kurta matched with my dress otherwise I'll call off the wedding." she shouted as I entered the room.
"Make it done by the morning!" she said before keeping off the call.
"Bhai c'mon, don't shout at your patidev!" I chuckled while making my way to the bed.
"Vayush esa karega na tab pata chalega tujhe!" She cried making me chuckle.
"Mene isko ek mahine phle se bolke rhka hai ki kurta ready krle, but nahi isko fursat mile aur kaamo se tab to ye meri baat sune!" she continued taking her night suit out from her trolley bag.
"C'mon he's not even coming to your wedding!" I whispered as my smile dropped at the mention of him.
"Don't feel sad yaar! Please!" She pouted.
I nodded softly and laid down on the mattress as I was hell tired. "I'm sleeping okay! Wake me up at 7 in the morning." I stated. Tanishka hummed and went into the bathroom.
Making myself comfortable under the blanket I unlocked my phone. I called Vayu but he didn't respond.
It made me sad because I was missing him so much right now. I know he couldn't come, and so I won't force him much.
I kept my phone under the pillow and snuggled my face into the pillow. Soon sleep took me.
